Alice Kirby BSc (Hons) Dip CBEd (CBI)...

I’ve been involved in the field of pregnancy and birth for 7 years. I’m a qualified and fully insured Childbirth Educator. I hold my registration with the Federation of Antenatal Educators (FEDANT) who are the UK regulatory body for antenatal teachers.
I spent over 2 years as a student midwife in London, where I 'caught' 22 babies including 6 waterbirths, supported over 100 women in labour, co-taught NHS antenatal classes and attended hundreds more families in hospital and the local community.
After a change of heart I decided to leave the NHS and develop my career by offering private antenatal classes and complementary therapies. I have trained with leading active birth experts including Michel Odent, Janet Balaskas, Jean Sutton and Natal Hypnotherapy's Maggie Howell. I continue to learn from and be inspired by all the families I meet, and I love providing information and support at this most precious stage of life
I'm based in Helston, Cornwall, having moved back home from London towards the end of last year. In my spare time I enjoy walks to the beach and countryside, comedy, and good food and drink. I'm also training to be an aromatherapist and pregnancy yoga teacher.
Childbirth Philosophy
Parents-to-be should have access to quality, evidence based information about birth in order to make truly informed choices and decisions. I believe that birth professionals should support parents unconditionally in their informed birth choices; in accordance with NMC rules. The vast majority of women who have a positive and open attitude towards childbirth can give birth to their babies actively and instinctively in an optimal birthing environment, supported by birth partners who feel confident in responding to the needs that a woman has during labour. Women don't need to be taught how to give birth. If anything, expectant parents may need to 'unlearn' certain perceptions that birth is always dangerous, scary and very painful. By rediscovering the true, natural physiology of childbirth, parents can be empowered to take control of the birth experience.
